ABOUT ALABI

For my family. For yours. For Calgary-South East.

Alabi Adenekan was not a kid anyone expected much from. At just seventeen, he found himself leading a group of young people at his church, kids that a lot of people had already written off as outcasts. He built a plan for that day by day, the same way he has built everything since. What he's proudest of isn't any credential; it's this: every single one of those young people went on to graduate from university, build careers, and raise families of their own. Watching that happen is what set his north star early: creating possibilities and opportunities for everyone, no matter where you start.

That belief followed him into a bigger decision, too. In 2013, he and his wife chose Canada as the place to build their future, and in 2016, they made Calgary-South East their home. Along the way, Alabi built a 25-year career in technology. He earned his Chartered status with BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, U.K., and in 2011 was awarded Fellowship with the Institute for his contributions to the BCS Nigerian Chapter and his mentorship of young IT professionals there, becoming one of the youngest African professionals to reach that milestone. He also holds a Master of Science in IT from the University of Derby and a dual MBA from Cornell and Queen's University. At Cornell University, he was recognized with an EMC² Fellows Award from the University’s Emerging Market Institute for his academic and societal contributions to the institute. He's a current member of the Institute of Corporate Directors, having completed its Director Education Program. He volunteers as a board director with Enviros Wilderness Association, which supports at-risk youth; CRIEC, which helps newcomers settle and integrate into Alberta life; and Foundations for the Future Charter Academy, one of Calgary's public charter schools. He also serves in his local church. That mix of experience is part of what he believes sets him apart in this race: he sees real promise in emerging technologies like AI. He believes that preparing Alberta's youth for the future of work is one of our most urgent responsibilities.

None of that would mean much without the life he's built with his wife. Alabi is a husband, a father of four, and a person of faith whose beliefs ground his approach to service. He and his wife are both entrepreneurs, and together they've spent years putting down roots in this community, raising their family and serving their local church shortly after arriving in Canada. That includes five years Alabi spent volunteering with the Mahogany Homeowners Association as Events Chair and Social Chair, helping bring his own neighbours together long before he ever thought about running for office.

That same instinct to serve carried him into politics. He's been volunteering on local campaigns since 2019, and today he serves as Vice-President of the federal Conservative Association in Calgary Shepard, working alongside MP Tom Kmiec to support conservative values at every level of government. He also served as a board member on the Calgary-South East constituency association alongside MLA Matt Jones, before stepping aside to pursue this nomination. Now he's asking Calgary-South East for the chance to bring that same drive to government, continuing the work Alberta's UCP is already doing on affordability, entrepreneurship, technology, and energy. Alabi has spent his whole life proving that where you start doesn't have to decide where you end up, and he wants that to be just as true for every family in Calgary-South East as it's been for his own.

THE 6 PILLARS

Six commitments. One simple idea.

Government should work for families — not the other way around. These are the principles I'll carry into every caucus meeting, every committee, and every vote in the Alberta Legislature.

Represent Calgary-South East

Our communities are growing fast, and they deserve a government that keeps pace. Calgary-South East is one of the fastest-growing parts of Alberta, and our infrastructure needs to keep pace. That means better collaboration across all tiers of government on transit, access to health care close to home, more school funding, and support for recreation facilities. I'll be a relentless advocate in government for the practical, on-the-ground investments that make daily life work for our families.

MY COMMITMENTS

  • Be a visible, accessible and responsive representative of the community
  • Advocate for more family doctors, nurse practitioners, and primary care options in Calgary-South East
  • Foster better collaboration across all levels of Government to secure better infrastructure in Calgary-South East
  • Hold regular town halls, community office hours, and local roundtables with all residents, small businesses, faith groups, and community leaders

Safety

Every family in Calgary-South East deserves to feel safe walking their own streets, sending their kids to the park, and locking up shop at the end of the day. Too many neighbourhoods across Alberta are feeling the strain of rising crime, addiction, and homelessness, and Calgary-South East isn't immune. Community safety isn't a talking point; it's the foundation on which everything else is built. I'll push for real, practical solutions that keep our streets safe while treating addiction and homelessness as the crises they are, not problems to manage from a distance.

MY COMMITMENTS

  • Prioritize safe neighbourhoods so families feel secure at home, at school, at work, and in public spaces
  • Support stronger provincial funding and tools for police, sheriffs, Crown prosecutors, and the courts
  • Expand recovery-focused mental health and addiction supports that protect both families and communities
  • Strengthen youth prevention programs that keep young people away from gangs, drugs, and crime

Strengthen Education

Parents are the first and most important voice in a child's life. Government, schools, and teachers all have important roles to play, but parents must never be pushed aside. Every parent wants the right learning environment for their child, whether that is a public, Catholic, francophone, charter, independent, specialized, online, or home education option. Real school choice means parents have a genuine path, not just a name on a waitlist or a spot decided by luck.

In Calgary-South East, too many families face the reality of children being bused far from home, preferred schools being full, and specialized programs being hard to access. I support school choice because I trust parents, and I support strong public schools because choice only works when every option is strong. That means investing in classrooms, attracting and retaining teachers and support staff, reducing pressure in overcrowded schools, and making sure fast-growing communities like ours get the school capacity they need.

MY COMMITMENTS

  • Defend every family's right to make decisions about their own children's education
  • Give school boards and school authorities that offer choice the tools, funding, and flexibility they need to grow responsibly
  • Support continued investment in public schools, including attracting and retaining more teachers and support staff
  • Expand school capacity in fast-growing Calgary-South East communities so more children can learn closer to home

Affordability

Every homeowner deserves the security of knowing their investment is protected, not taxed away year after year. Right now, the Calgary Food Bank is distributing nearly triple the number of hampers it did just a few years ago, and some of our neighbours here in Calgary-South East are not spared from that reality. I support lower taxes, careful spending, and leaving more money in the hands of families, seniors, workers, and small businesses. That means saying no to waste, no to runaway program growth, and yes to disciplined spending that keeps Alberta affordable. Part of that discipline means protecting what people have already built. Your home and your savings are things you've worked hard for, and government shouldn't make it harder to hold onto them or pass them on.

MY COMMITMENTS

  • Keep taxes low for families, seniors, and small businesses
  • Adhere to disciplined and transparent government spending
  • Attracting businesses & economic opportunities to Calgary-South East
  • Support our government's efforts to protect property rights and push for practical action on utility, insurance and everyday household cost pressures

Back Entrepreneurs, Cut Red Tape

As an entrepreneur, I know every dollar counts. I have made payroll, paid rent, stretched a budget, and carried that pressure home to the kitchen table. My wife and I have built businesses in this city, and I have helped others get theirs off the ground. I know how stacked permits, slow approvals, and unnecessary rules can make it harder for people to build, hire, and grow.

Alberta should be the best place in Canada to start and grow a business. That means keeping taxes low, cutting red tape, shortening approval timelines, improving access to capital, and making sure government helps people build instead of standing in their way. When entrepreneurs thrive, families get hired, young people see opportunity, communities become stronger, and Alberta wins.

MY COMMITMENTS

  • Cut red tape and shorten approval timelines for small businesses
  • Bring an entrepreneur's eye for waste to government programs
  • Protect the right to start, run, and grow a business in Alberta
  • Support policies that attract capital to Alberta and help local entrepreneurs access the funding they need to grow here instead of elsewhere

Power Alberta's Future

Alberta's prosperity is built on what we produce: responsible energy, world-class agriculture, skilled trades, natural resources, and a growing technology and innovation sector. These industries keep families working, attract investment, and make our province strong.

With more than twenty-six years in technology, I know Alberta must prepare for the future while defending the industries that built this province. That means standing up for our energy sector, protecting Alberta's jurisdiction, helping young people build the skills they need for a future shaped by AI and emerging technology, and keeping good jobs and paycheques here at home. As part of the UCP team, I will work constructively within government to deliver results for Calgary-South East while staying grounded in the needs of the families I hope to represent.

MY COMMITMENTS

  • Support diversification through technology, agriculture, and trades
  • Prepare Calgary-South East's youth for a future shaped by AI and emerging technology
  • Defend Alberta's energy industry and the families it supports
  • Keep Alberta open for investment, builders, and skilled workers

I am seeking this nomination to represent Calgary-South East as part of the UCP government team delivering for Alberta families. The representation I want to bring to Edmonton is simple: present in the room, engaged in the work, and always carrying Calgary-South East's voice into the decisions that shape our province's future. Representation is not something you do from the sidelines, and that is not where I intend to be.
